The correct duration for a wireworm to mature is 2-6 years. This timeframe is significant as it reflects the biological cycle of wireworms, which are the larval stages of click beetles (family Elateridae). Understanding this maturation period is critical for managing wireworms as pests, particularly in agricultural contexts, where they can cause considerable damage to crops.

Wireworms have a protracted life cycle, with initial development occurring primarily in the soil as they feed on roots and tubers. The extended maturation period allows them to grow and develop through multiple larval instars before they pupate and emerge as adults. This information is crucial for farmers and agricultural professionals who need to implement effective pest management strategies, taking into consideration the lifecycle of these pests to minimize crop damage.

The other options suggest much shorter or longer durations, which are not consistent with the known developmental timeline of wireworms. An understanding of their lifecycle is essential for predicting their emergence and implementing control measures effectively.
